At the UNESCO’s initiative, approved the year 2010 has been declared as “Year for the Rapprochement of Cultures”. Within the framework of the initiative, side effects an international scientific conference titled “Nizami and Navoi: historical and cultural ties” was held on June 14, about it 2010 in Samarkand. The conference was organized by the International Institute of Central Asian Studies (UNESCO Institute) with the active participation of the A.Navoi Samarkand State University. Attending the conference were well-known linguists, literary critics and historians from Azerbaijan, Iran, Turkey, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
Addressing words of welcome to the forum opening that took place at the Samarkand State University were Director of the IICAS, Dr. Sh. Mustafayev; representatives of city authorities; Rector of the Samarkand State University, ?. Shirinov; Yildiz University Professor (Turkey), Dr. J. Okuyudju. Speakers highly appreciated Nizami’ and Navoi’s creative contribution to the Persian-and Turkic-language literatures from traditions and innovations standpoint; influence and role of the two prominent personalities of the epoch in the development of cultural and social-enlightenment relations between the peoples.
Sessions went on within the framework of two breakup groups that sat simultaneously at the conference-halls of the Samarkand University. Above 30 reports were heard and discussed; examined sources of Nizami Gyandjevi’s creativity that had its impact on the development of literature in the subsequent centuries, as well as the Navoi’s contribution to the development of such important literary phenomenon as hamsachilik – creation of Hamsa.
The work of the conference and reports of the participants once again confirmed enduring importance of the two outstanding poets of the epoch whose creative work still contributes to the formation of artistic thinking of our generation. Note that the literary heritage of the great Nizami and Navoi has been analyzed for several centuries; however, the purport and significance of their works become no antiquated.
As a whole, themes of the conference are rather topical, so forums of this kind, if held on regular basis, may contribute to the enrichment of facts and expand scientific contacts between researchers from different countries
