Official meeting between Director of IICAS and H.E. Mr. Sunaryo Kartadinata (Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Indonesia to the Republic of Uzbekistan) was held at the premise of the institute on 28th February 2024. The meeting was also attended by Ms. Rofita Djamawar (Minister Counsellor of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia) and Mrs. Rosalina Tobing (staff of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia).

The Ambassador of Indonesia congratulated Mr. Evren Rutbil on his election to the position of Director of IICAS and wished him fruitful activities in the development of international scientific cooperation in the study of the cultural heritage of Central Asia. Representatives of the Indonesian Embassy were informed that the International Institute for Central Asian Studies was established in Samarkand in 1995 as an outcome of the UNESCO Decade Project on Integral Study of the Silk Roads: Roads of Dialogue (1988-1997). The 12 countries, signatories to the Agreement establishing IICAS, are Member States of the institute.

In continuation of the meeting, the parties exchanged views on the prospects of cooperation between IICAS and the National Research and Innovation Agency of the Republic of Indonesia (BRIN).
