The opening ceremony of the 9th International Archaeological School (IAS)

On 12.09.2022 after many months of preparatory work the opening ceremony of the 9th International Archaeological School (IAS) was held in the conference hall of the Silk RoadInternational University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage in Samarkand. A unique educational program, established by the Khalikov Institute of Archaeology of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan and the Institute of International Relations, History and Oriental Studies of Kazan Federal University in 2014 is being implemented with the financial support of the International Institute for Central Asian Studies (IICAS) as part of the 2022-2023 academicplan of the Institute. This year the School will be held in two cities with ancient history and long research traditions - Samarkand and Bukhara.  

The school in Uzbekistan is co-organized by IICAS, the Silk Road International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage, the Yahyo Gulomov Samarkand Institute of Archaeology, and Bukhara State University.

The ceremony was attended by organizers, participants and teachers, as well as interested specialists. Welcoming speeches made by representatives of research institutions  co-organizers of the IAS, were followed by a presentation by Professor Ayrat Sitdikov, dedicated to the history of the school, the direction of training and further prospects of IASas a comprehensive educational initiative aimed at strengthening scientific and practical cooperation between scientists and researchers on a regional and international scale.
