Publication of the catalogue on “Traditional Crafts of the Silk Roads”
has been identified as first cooperation project within Memorandum of
Understanding signed between IICAS and Center “Umrboqiy Meros” (“Living
Heritage”) in 10 August 2021. The purpose of the publication is to provide public
in large with a summary of the representative handicrafts of various communities
living along the Great Silk Road. The publication covers 22 countries of the
Great Silk Road, which contains information about 32 traditional crafts, which
are inscribed to the Representative List and Good Practice Register under the
2003 UNESCO Convention. For centuries, the Silk Road has been an important
cultural exchange route in which there are many cities developed into cultural
and learning hubs. Today, the examples of traditional handicrafts related to
the centuries-old trading routes can still be experienced through various
crafts exhibitions and artisans exchange programs that take place in countries
along the Silk Roads. The catalogue was published with the financial support of the Public Fund
for Support of NGOs and Civil Society Institutions under the Oliy Majlis (Parliament)
of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Official presentation of the catalogue will
organized by the Center “Umrboqiy Meros” at the Alisher Navoi National Library
of Uzbekistan on 20 December 2021. The electronic version of the catalogue can
