The
International Institute for Central Asian Studies (IICAS) is pleased to inform
that another site visit was completed on April 24, 2023 in the framework of
ongoing supervision of the beautification, landscaping and general improvements
to three historical, cultural and natural sites in the Khatlon region of
Tajikistan.
The
researchers of the Institute reviewed in detail the status of work at Khoja
Mashhad Madrassah, Chiluchor Chashma and the Khulbuk Fortress. Field
consultations were held with the Client, as well as the engineering staff of
construction companies.
Understanding
the state of conservation of archeological structures and their incorporation
in the design to be further presented to the visitors. As a result of
archaeological field studies conducted in late 2022 - early 2023 the experts of
Ahmad Donish Institute of History, Archeology and Ethnography of the Academy of
Sciences and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Tajikistan explored the
remains of defensive structures, burials, as well as public and commercial
buildings around the Khulbuk fortress - the citadel of the ancient rulers of
Khuttal. Joint consultations to determine the best approaches to their
presentation and interpretation between the Consortium of ARS Progetti and
IICAS and the customer have continued.
In general,
the work is carried out according to the approved schedule. The ultimate goal
is to strengthen the tourism potential of the Khatlon region, involve the local
community and other stakeholders, while maintaining the historical and cultural
value, integrity and authenticity of the sites.
