On November 14, 2023, in Tashkent, Republic of Uzbekistan, the 16th session of the General Assembly of the International Institute for Central Asian Studies (IICAS) was held. The General Assembly of IICAS is composed of official representatives from the state parties to the IICAS treaty (as of 2023, 11 states and UNESCO). Representatives from the embassies of India and the Russian Federation in the Republic of Uzbekistan participated in the work of the 16th session of the IICAS General Assembly as observers.

Participants highly appreciated the work accomplished by IICAS following the presentation of the director’s report on the results and achievements of the institute over the past six years (2018–2023), the implementation of the scientific program, and the activities of the secretariat during 2022-2023.

A significant decision made by the IICAS General Assembly was the appointment of Mr. Evren Rutbil, representative of the Republic of Türkiye, as the director of IICAS for the term 2024–2027.

The approval of the scientific and budgetary programs of the institute for 2024–2025 outlined the direction of IICAS's activities for the next two-year period.

The decisions of the IICAS General Assembly regarding the adopted scientific program for 2024–2025 will be announced on the IICAS website, Facebook page, and LinkedIn in December of this year.
