On 08 June 2023, the office of the
International Institute for Central Asian Studies (IICAS) was visited by a
delegation of representatives of higher educational institutions of the
Republic of Kazakhstan, namely the International Kazakh-Turkish University
named after Kh. A. Yasawi (Turkestan) and Bolashak University (Kyzylorda). The
delegation was headed by Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Khazretali
Makhanovich Tursun.
During the meeting, Mr. Alim Feyzulayev, the Leading
Researcher of IICAS, made an overall introduction to the activities of the Institute
and talked about the ongoing studies in Central Asia.
The scientists shared their plans for search
and survey work in order to most accurately confirm the fact of the burial of
Mr. Serali Munaytbasovich Lapin, a famous scientist, and a local historian,
linguist, author of the first Russian-Uzbek dictionary, who made an invaluable
contribution to the study of historical and cultural monuments of Samarkand.
One of the members of the delegation, Dr. Saule Kulakhmedovna Khodzhikova, the
executive director of the Republican Historical and Educational Society
"Adilet", is the great-niece of Mr. Lapin.
In addition, the prospects for cooperation in
the field of advanced training of students, as well as emerging professionals,
expanding awareness in the field of protection and promotion of historical and
cultural heritage in the countries of Central Asia were the focus of the
discussion.
Numerous academic publications of IICAS aroused
sincere interest. At the end of the visit, the guests were presented with a
number of publications to be further transferred to their respective
universities.
